About I AM Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is an ancient, evidence-based meditation practice. It means “yogic sleep” and you get there easily by following the guidance of a facilitator, with simple instructions that slow down your brainwaves, which is the exact same, natural process we undergo when we go to sleep. Yogis say that 45 minutes of Yoga Nidra have the same restorative effects as three hours of deep sleep. Yes, Yoga Nidra is a sleep-based meditation practice which means that almost anyone* can practice it!

During a Yoga Nidra session, you reach a profound state of relaxation in which you are able to restore your system to balance, rest deeply, release accumulated tension in your body, and just be in silence. Yoga Nidra, and in particular I AM Yoga Nidra™ is a unique practice that helps you change reaction patterns, release stress, and get rid of self-defeating habits, behaviors, and insomnia. Think of it as getting out of your own way so restoration can take place.

*People with untreated schizophrenia, sensitivity to psychotic breaks, or under the influence of alcohol and drugs should abstain from practicing Yoga Nidra.

Please note that I AM Yoga Nidra sessions are available online exclusively upon request, and on location at Ayurvediskt Center Malmö.

What do you need to participate in a session?

Make yourself supremely comfortable. Yoga Nidra is practiced lying on your back, preferably on a mat on the floor, with pillows under your head and under your knees so your back is fully relaxed and comfortable. You will also need a blanket to cover yourself as your temperature will drop.

  • Make sure you’re wearing loose-fitting clothes and that nothing feels tight around your body or head.

  • The session itself is 40 – 45 minutes long, but make sure to set aside a full hour, you need to come back slowly from this deep meditation state.

  • To the best of your ability, make sure you won’t be disturbed during the session. If you are not practicing with the people around you, let them know that this is a time for you, one hour is only 4% of your day, anyway.

  • You may think you fell asleep during the session, often what happens is that you really reach that deep meditation realm in which all time stops. And if you do fall asleep, that’s perfectly fine too, you are simply giving your body exactly what it needs. And no matter what happens, you will always get the benefits. There is no way of doing it wrong!
